Best Psychological Horror Movies

Not all horror movies have blood and gore, demons or monsters. Sometimes, the monsters are the humans because of the degradation of their mind or just bad wiring in the brain.

Here is my list of the best psychological horror movies!

1. The Shining (1980) – Jack Nicholson stole the show on this one and the suspense was amazing. This movie, based on Stephen King’s novel is from the vein of Poe.

2. Silence of the Lambs (1991) – incredible movie following a convicted cannibalistic serial killer as he toys with an investigator on another case. Sir Anthony Hopkins was superb.

3. Get Out (2017) – VERY creepy movie that borders on sci-fi.

4. Psycho (1960) – the granddaddy of psychological horror, still a classic with brilliant cinematography

5. Hereditary (2018) – By far, the most disturbing film on this list.

6. Misery (1990) – I loved this movie and the book. Kathy Bates is not the one you want as your biggest fan!

7. The Lighthouse (2019) – Robert Eggars’ (The Witch) second film follows the degradation of two lighthouse men’s minds into paranoia.

8. Caveat (2020) – bordering on a Supernatural movie, the cat and mouse game between the two main cast members is amazing.

9. Secret Window (2004) – Classic psychological horror at its best from King. Johnny Depp was perfect in the part.

10. House of Wax (1953) Vincent Price stars as a sculptor sculptor who repopulates his destroyed wax museum by murdering people and using their wax-coated corpses as displays.
